I know we can use app passwords but I don’t want to do that unless we have to, as I think they have their own security concerns as they skip the second factor. BUT, we also have clients that want to go ahead with MFA using the built in edition that comes with their licenses, is there no way around this without using app passwords?
If you don't have licensing that will allow for conditional access control then you are going to continue to have this issue.
I have also found that OAuth2.0 has been supported since iOS 12 which part of Microsoft's Modern Authentication.
@rccharles, I'm not really trying to make a suggestion; just to understand the current state of support for MFA in the native mail app. I tried that. Thanks in advance. Yes, I am aware of app passwords but I'd be much happier knowing that the native mail app truly supports MFA. No one can ensure you regarding how these features will work in your environment. I'm migrating a client to Office 365 and will be enforcing Modern Authentication and Multi-Factor Authentication. Bluemail on android does support modern authentication and will log as its own app in the 365 management portal. It can't even put something in bold or italics.
Also, if the account was added prior to modern authentication being added you must delete both the account from the phone as well as the mobile partnership from OWA. We did this no complaints. If I move away from Basic Authentication to Modern Authentication with iPhone users, will they still be able to use the native iOS Mail app? I think Duo Mobile (MFA) can also be set not to send authentication through unless at a certain level, and they have a “Security Alert” bar that displays when out of compliance with a setting. Yes, keep in mind that web outlook connections are already on Modern Authentication.
